Position Description: Retention Technician (FIPSE)

Salary Level: Grade Level 4 - Range: $24,040.00 to $26,440.00
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of either a Bachelors Degree in Business or Counseling two years of experience.
- Demonstrate competency in database management, computer system operations, filing, recording, scheduling, recording meeting minutes and proceedings, and other applicable skills.
- Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with students and college staff/faculty.
- Experience working with Native American students.
- Indian preference in employment considered.
- May be subject to a background check.
Primary Function:
To provide support services to the Academic Dean of Student Services through computerized administrative data base and information system that will include maintenance and distribution of written reports and communications, computer skills (word, excel, email, power point, access, etc.), and other office functions.
Responsibilities:
- Possess strong networking and communication abilities for working with students and college staff/faculty.
- Development, implementation, and evaluation of new and continuing retention activities.
- Interprets and communicates College admission policies, academic policies, and student services procedures to students, parents and the public.
- Identify a profile of at-risk students utilizing input from students and staff.
- Cross-reference the profile with student enrollments to identify students critically at risk and Make referrals as needed by faculty.
- Notify students and provide information on services available.
- Assist instructional staff in identifying behavior changes that merit referrals.
- Monitor performance of students through weekly attendance reports and monthly contacts with faculty.
- Refer students who receive deficiencies in one or more subject areas to appropriate individual.
- Provide monthly and annual reports of activities to proper constituents.
- Protect confidentiality of students as provided by the college’s confidentiality policy.
- Meet and greet students while answering questions from students for all areas of student services.
- Assist in completing student applications for financial aid and admissions.
- Maintaining confidential student academic records.
- Serve as the Chair of the Retention Committee.
- Assists in the development of policy and procedures.
- Assists Registrar with grade mailing, registration and graduation activities.
- Assists in the development of institutional reports using Info maker.
- Serves on Institutional committees as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned relating to current position.
Major Planning Requirements:
- Schedule meetings with students who have attendance gaps.
- Plan strategies to ensure retention plan objectives are being addressed.
- Keep a record or log of all retention meetings.
- Plan work schedule to ensure all work requirements are completed in a timely manner.
- Works with and plans with college faculty and staff to ensure that objects of the retention plan are accomplished in an efficient, effective, and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily monitoring of student attendance.
- Retention reports to the Dean of Student Services and the Academic Dean.
- When directed by the Dean of Student Services, direct relations with college staff/faculty.
- Daily contact with students through phone calls, and visits.
Working Conditions:
- The position works in an environment that has constant contact (phone, personal) with students and staff.
- The position may, at times, get stressful due to the work demands.
- The work will occasionally require long periods of sitting and working on the computer.
- There may be occasional travel to meetings and/or training.
