Position Description: Life Science Instructor

Starting Salary:
Master’s Degree – $32,500.00 to $35,700.00 – depending on experience
Doctorate Degree - $38,500.00 to $41,700.00 – depending on experience

Qualifications:
A minimum of a Master’s degree in teaching area.

Required Experience/Training/Credentials:

  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in community college setting and knowledge of its role in higher education.

  • Successful teaching experience with culturally and academically diverse student population.
  • Ability to implement contemporary pedagogical philosophies, methods, and techniques including multi-media to develop and deliver instruction in classroom and lab settings.
  • Ability to develop instructional activities, course syllabi, course outlines and other necessary teaching material.
  • Ability to effectively use appropriate technology and equipment.
  • Ability to work collegially with all individuals in the tribal college setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and background check.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Instruct in the following area: life sciences(Biology, Microbiology, Human Anatomy).
  2. Prepare course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
  3. Conduct assessment through pre and post test methods to measure effectiveness of instruction.
  4. Maintain office hours; participate in department and institutional meetings and committees.
  5. Teach 15 credits per semester.
  6. Conduct research in content areas as applicable to position and TMCC.
  7. Develop and follow an “Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).
  8. Order equipment and supplies needed for your labs and courses.
  9. Submit an article about the your classes to the Tribal College Journal in 2009 and 2011.
  10. Participate in team teaching a science survey course.
  11. Design and teach an introduction to biology class.
  12. Design and teach a research methods class.
  13. Participate in the review of your classes and labs by a university professor.
  14. Find and incorporate appropriate learning software into your courses.
