Position Description: Environmental Science Instructor

Starting Salary:
Master’s Degree – $32,500.00 to $35,700.00 – depending on experience
Doctorate Degree - $38,500.00 to $41,700.00 – depending on experience
Qualifications:
A minimum of a Master’s degree in teaching area.
Required Experience/Training/Credentials:
- A minimum of three years of teaching experience in community college setting and knowledge of its role in higher education.
- Successful teaching experience with culturally and academically diverse student population.
- Ability to implement contemporary pedagogical philosophies, methods, and techniques including multi-media to develop and deliver instruction in classroom and lab settings.
- Ability to develop instructional activities, course syllabi, course outlines and other necessary teaching material.
- Ability to effectively use appropriate technology and equipment.
- Ability to work collegially with all individuals in the tribal college setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
- Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
Job Responsibilities:
- Instruct in the following area: environmental sciences.
- Prepare course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
- Conduct assessment through pre and post test methods to monitor and measure student data and effectiveness of teaching and learning.
- Maintain office hours; participate in department and institutional meetings and committees.
- Teach 15 credits per semester.
- Conduct research in content areas as applicable to position and TMCC.
- Develop and follow an “Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).
- Develop courses for the 2- and 4-year environmental degree for the TCUP grant.
- Design and implement the outdoor labs described by the TCUP grant.
- Order equipment and supplies needed for your labs and courses.
- Submit an article about the environmental classes to the Tribal College Journal in 2009 and 2011.
- Participate in team teaching a science survey course.
- Participate in a review of environmental classes and labs by a university professor.
- Find and incorporate appropriate learning software into the environmental courses.
