Computer Support Specialist Instructor

Job Description:
Teach Computer Support Specialist courses related to A.A., A.S. and A.A.S. degree programs. Coursework includes: operating systems, network security, CISCO networking, UNIX, Oracle, programming, and web design. Responsible for curriculum development and outcomes assessment, institutional committee work, community service, and outreach are inherent to the position.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degrees in Computer Science, Information Systems or closely related field with significant IS industry experience. We are also willing to look at candidates who have an Associates Degree in Computer Related field and a mix of skills in the IS and CS areas in lieu of the specific qualifications listed. IS-related certifications are considered a plus (e.g., CCNA, A+, N+, etc.)
- Competency in teaching a minimum of two of the following areas: Management Information Systems, Database, Networking, Programming, E-Commerce, Systems Administration, CISCO, and Web Design
- Must meet ND State Career & Technical Education Postsecondary Certification Standards
Desired Experience/Training/Credentials:
- Able to obtain and maintain licenses as required by state or accrediting commissions.
- Teaching experience at the adult and post secondary level. Successful teaching experience with diverse student population.
- Experience in organizing and writing reports and presentations of a technical nature.
- Proven track record of project completions, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle a high pressure environment with significant timeline pressures.
- Proven educational or administrative experience in critical thinking, problem solving and judgment skills.
- Develop and follow an “Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP)” as prescribed by TMCC’s faculty salary policy manual.
- Applicant must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
Necessary Knowlege/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to implement contemporary pedagogical philosophies, methods and techniques including multi-media to develop and deliver instruction in classroom and lab settings.
- Ability to develop instructional activities, course syllabi, course outlines and other necessary teaching material.
- Ability to effectively use appropriate technology and equipment.
- Ability to work collegially with all individuals in the tribal college setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and presentation skills required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Teaches courses in the Computer Support Specialist Curriculum. Develop and teach labs for all classes that require lab.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Teaches material from approved curriculum and develops daily lesson plans to include instructional aids.
- Responsible for meeting the goals and objectives of the Native American Career and Technical Education project (NACTEP).
- Participate in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data for purposes of NACTEP evaluation.
- Develop a Compute Support Specialist advisory board and hold meetings.
- Prepare and submit monthly program progress reports to CTE Director.
- Maintains expertise in subject area and recommends improvements in curriculum design.
- Participates in retention initiatives by providing regular, accurate, and timely feedback to students and to student services concerning academics and, attendance, etc.
- Motivates students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process.
- Participates in certification programs, and student professional associations and organizations.
- Guide research projects for career & technical education students.
- Advise students in Information Technology curriculum.
- Develop and disseminate recruitment materials for the Information Technology program.
- Conduct assessment through pre and post test methods to measure effectiveness of course instruction.
- Accept TMCC committee(s) assignments and other related contract-delineated responsibilities as specified in contract.
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.
