Salary: Masters level- $32,500 to $35,700.00 (based on experience)
Turtle Mountain Community College is a tribal college located in the beautiful Turtle Mountains near Belcourt, ND. The college offers an education grounded in Native American culture, offering an array of associate degrees and baccalaureate degrees.
This full-time position in Chemistry education begins immediately, offering the opportunity to teach in an exciting and innovative science program entitled, Native Ways of Knowing. The main objective of this project is to define and implement a significant change in how science is understood and how science is taught in high schools.
Applicants should have expertise in Chemistry with supportive knowledge in biology and earth science and physics. Teaching experience in middle school and secondary is preferred. Excellent oral and writing skills are a must along with a commitment to innovative teaching methodologies, team work, and collaboration. A minimum of a Master’s degree in Chemistry is required. Responsibilities will include teaching, developing online courses, supervising student teachers, developing curricula, and serving on various academic committees.
Desired Experience/Training/Credentials:
- A minimum of three years full-time teaching experience in college setting.
- Successful teaching experience with culturally and academically diverse student population.
- Ability to implement contemporary pedagogical philosophies, methods, and techniques including multi-media to develop and deliver instruction in classroom and lab settings.
- Able to develop instructional activities, course syllabi, course outlines and other necessary teaching materials.
- Ability to effectively use appropriate technology and equipment.
- Ability to work collegially with all individuals in the tribal college setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
- Applicant must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
Job Responsibilities:
- Instruct in the following area: Chemistry
- Prepare course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
- To conduct assessment through pre and post test methods to measure effectiveness of instruction.
- Maintain office hours; participate in department and institutional meetings and committees.
- Teach 12 credits per semester.
- To do research in content areas as applicable to position and TMCC.
- Monitor student data and make recommendations and changes based on the findings.
- Develop and follow an “Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP)” as prescribed by TMCC’s faculty salary policy manual.
- To accept TMCC committee(s) assignments and other related contract-delineated responsibilities as specified in contract.
